Woman arrested on suspicion of murder after two-year-old boy dies in South Wales

Police have launched a murder investigation after a two-year-old boy died in South Wales.

He was found in a critical condition at an address in the Broadlands area of Bridgend at about 8.30pm on Wednesday.

The boy was taken to University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, where he died on Thursday afternoon.

South Wales Police said a 31-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.

“I understand this incident will have caused concerns in the local community, but I must stress we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with this matter at this time,” Detective Chief Inspector Matt Davies said.

He asked people not to speculate on social media about the circumstances during what is “a very difficult time for all concerned”.

Police liaison officers are working with the family.
