Investigation after allegation mentally ill patient ‘filmed masturbating’ in hospital ward

A HOSPITAL said it was assisting with police inquiries over an allegation that a security guard filmed a patient masturbating.

Lancashire Telegraph has learned that the video was then shared on WhatsApp and shown to fellow staff members on duty.

It was only then that the staff member was reprimanded and notified of the ramifications of his actions.

The patient is believed to be mentally ill and was in a ward at the hospital.

The hospital is managed by the East Lancashire Hospitals Trust (ELHT).

The ELHT said ‘this was a police investigation and they are assisting with police enquiries’.

Lancashire Constabulary were contacted for comment.

The hospital uses private contracted security firms on some shifts.

According to the ELHT website visitors are reminded of strict rulings and states: “No patients or staff are to be filmed without consent.”

On the same night, Sunday June 28 to Monday June 29, a separate incident a security staff member was also said to have become intoxicated and gone to sleep in a cabin area.

This staff member was later told to leave the premises.
