A school has raised over £2,000 for Cancer Research in a sponsored run.
Pupils at Great Marsden St. John’s Primary Academy in Nelson have raised £2,230.00 in a Race for Life, smashing their target of £400.
The reception and year one pupils ran two kilometres, year two, three and four pupils ran three kilometres while year five and six pupils ran five kilometres.
Deputy headteacher Rachel Hollas set the fundraiser target thinking that given the financial difficulties faced by Covid, each of the 211 pupils could raise around £2 each.
The fundraiser has raised more than five times the target, with Rachel being amazed by the response of the pupils families.
She said: “I am so overwhelmed by the response of our school family. A lot of our families have found this last year difficult due to Covid and with this in mind when I set up the Just Giving page I put a target of £400, which equated to about £2 per child as I didn’t want to put any extra pressure on anyone.
“The generosity has been beyond anything I could have imagined and has made me immensely proud to be part of Great Marsden St. John’s Primary Academy.”
