Elderly woman injured in hospital after bad Blackburn crash

POLICE are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after a woman was left in a serious condition following an accident in Blackburn.

Officers were called to Bolton Road at 4.48pm yesterday (July 14) following reports of a serious road traffic collision at the Branch Road junction on the A666.

It is believed the Toyota hybrid had been going down Cravens Brow in the direction of Blackburn town centre when it clipped the kerb of a traffic island, before crashing into a traffic light station.

No other vehicles are thought to have been involved.

The driver of the Toyota, a woman in her 70s from Darwen, was taken to hospital and her condition is described as serious but stable.

Sgt Peter Norris, of East Tactical Operations, said: “This incident involved a woman being left in a very serious condition and my thoughts are with her and her loved ones at this time.

“We are now investigating the full circumstances of what led to the collision and I would ask any witnesses or anybody with CCTV or dashcam footage which could assist our enquiries to get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to email 3961@lancashire.police.uk or call police on 101, quoting log 1101 of July 14, 2021.
