Chorley FC James Dean shirt on sale ahead of Halifax memorial event

CHORLEY Football Club have released a commemorative shirt in honour of their late former striker, James Dean.

Dean, affectionately known as ‘Deano’, sadly passed away in May at the age of 35.

Now, his former club are selling a shirt in the online club shop bearing his nickname and number on the back. The number nine was his squad number at Chorley FC and is filled with the names of his former clubs along with a Lancashire red rose.

The shirt will be worn by players in a match organised by Chorley and Halifax Town, who he also played for, in a memorial event at Victory Park Stadium on 8 August 2021.

The game will be contested by a Chorley Old Boys outfit, mainly featuring Dean’s former teammates in the 2014 Northern Premier League title-winning side against a Halifax Old Boys team.

Chorley first team manager Jamie Vermiglio said: “It’s an honour for us to be able to support the event and to give everyone the opportunity commemorate the life of Deano.

“We hope the event will give his boys, family and friends a chance to see that the admiration for Deano extends far and wide.”

Tickets are on sale via the club’s online shop and under-sixes will be admitted for free.

There will be live music, food and drink, an auction, bouncy castles as well as former Leeds United legend Eddie Gray as guest speaker in an action-packed day to be enjoyed in Dean’s memory.

Dean played for Chorley for three-years between 2013 and 2016, after turning out for Halifax Town between 2009 and 2012.
